Collage and mixed media artist
Various colors and textures of paper, cardboard, cords, trims and other found objects are re-purposed and re-arranged to make objects of beauty and wonder. Materials such as paper plates, magazines, party decorations, tinsel, playing cards, all of which are destined for landfill, are now looked at in a different way.
We can challenge the normalcy of a throw-away society by demonstrating love and beauty in that which we would discard.
At the same time I have in mind the capacity of humans to be resilient, to defy a living death of trauma, addiction and homelessness and find hope, joy and love in the most trying of circumstances.
“ I like people to develop their own relationship with my art. However, I like to think my work has a spiritual dimension. It is about the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.”
I would not have been confident to call
myself an artist until I met
Melissa Mazzio.
Melissa was my art therapist at the VA. She told me she truly believed that I would be a famous artist one day. I thought she was out of her mind.
After becoming immersed in my art practice, I gradually came to believe that I could produce work that the world would enjoy.
